The Magic of Disney

I am sure a lawsuit is being filed by Disney as I write this, just for using their name in the title. But oh well.

So, this past Sunday we took the kids to Disney. Needless to say, it was magical.

Now, if you are between the ages of 2 and 12, this is the most magical place on the planet. If you are under 2 or over 30, it is just downright confusing. If you are a teenager, well, everywhere is hell. I, being 31, couldn’t tell what was a ride and what was a store. I couldn’t find food. The lines looped around, herding us like cattle, and I had no idea what ride I was on until, well, I was on it. For Madison, our 3 year old, it was surely magical. All her favorite Disney people were there, and she got to see the castle and meet Arial. Yep, magical. For Hailey, our two month old, it was confusing. It was bright, then dark, swirling colors, tons of people, endless rolling in the stroller, screaming, noises, bangs, boops, and more. Personally, I felt like I took a bad hit of LSD – not that i know what that is like or anything.

All said and done, it was magical. It must have been – four chicken nuggets were almost as much as my car payment. I am still waiting for their magical powers to kick in. The sodas, which must give you x-ray vision or something, cost more than my car payment. But they do let you trade your first born child for bottled water. It was, however, magical how the money vanished from my wallet. It was magical that my legs didn’t give out on me by noon. It was surely magical that neither kid was frightened out of their heads by the large talking rats. It was, all in all, a magical day.

Of course, it also rained while we were there. As magical as Disney is, I expected I could stand in their park, while it is raining, but not get wet. However, it turns out you have to have the magical Disney parka, which costs about as much as a new guitar. Of course, once it started raining, the parkas were then increased in price to the equivilent of a mortgage payment.

But hey – seeing the kids happy (or confused) was priceless, and you can’t get more magical than that.
